Hi there, welcome to my blog where I share my passion for cruising and travel. Today I want to talk about the cruise lines operating out of Tilbury Essex and their specialties and some detail of the ships they operate and give them a star rating.
Tilbury is a historic port on the north bank of the River Thames, just before it opens out to the North Sea. It's a great place to start your cruise adventure, as you can easily reach it by car or train from London. Tilbury Cruise Terminal is a 1930s Grade II listed building that sees over 100,000 passengers travel through it every year.
The most regular cruise lines from Tilbury are Fred Olsen and Viking, sailing year round. However, in the peak summer months many other cruise lines’ ships depart from Tilbury such as Silversea, Voyages to Antiquity, NCL, Azamara and Regent. The newest addition to the port is Ambassador Cruise Line, which launched in 2021 with its ship Ambience.
Here are some of the cruise lines and ships that you can find at Tilbury and what they offer:
- Fred Olsen: This family-owned cruise line offers a friendly and relaxed atmosphere on board its four ships: Balmoral, Braemar, Bolette and Borealis. The ships are small to medium-sized, which means they can access more ports and destinations than larger vessels. Fred Olsen cruises from Tilbury to destinations such as Norway, Iceland, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Madeira and the Canaries. I would give Fred Olsen a 4-star rating for its value for money, service and destination choices.
- Viking: This cruise line is known for its elegant and modern Scandinavian design and its focus on cultural enrichment and destination immersion. Viking operates two types of ships: ocean ships and river ships. The ocean ships are Viking Star, Viking Sea, Viking Sky, Viking Sun, Viking Orion and Viking Jupiter. The river ships are Viking Longships, which sail on the Rhine, Main, Danube and Seine rivers. Viking cruises from Tilbury to destinations such as Scandinavia, the Baltic, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and North America. I would give Viking a 5-star rating for its luxury, comfort and quality of experiences.
- Ambassador Cruise Line: This is a new British cruise line that aims to offer a traditional and authentic cruise experience for the over 50s market. Its ship, **Ambience**, is a classic mid-sized vessel that can accommodate up to 1400 guests. Ambassador Cruise Line cruises from Tilbury to destinations such as Norway, Iceland, Greenland, Canada, the Mediterranean and the British Isles. I would give Ambassador Cruise Line a 3-star rating for its affordability, simplicity and nostalgia.
- Silversea: This is a luxury cruise line that offers an all-inclusive experience on board its nine ships: Silver Cloud, Silver Wind, Silver Shadow, Silver Whisper, Silver Spirit, Silver Muse, Silver Moon, Silver Origin and Silver Dawn. The ships are small to medium-sized, which means they can access more remote and exotic destinations than larger vessels. Silversea cruises from Tilbury to destinations such as Northern Europe, South America, Antarctica and Africa. I would give Silversea a 5-star rating for its elegance, sophistication and exclusivity.
These are just some of the cruise lines and ships that you can find at Tilbury. There are many more options to suit your preferences and budget. Tilbury is a great port to start your cruise holiday from, as it offers easy access to London and a variety of destinations around the world.
